1. Tell us about your life journey, Vandita?

My journey since childhood has been full of fun and varied experiences. My father was fond of travelling so he ensured we visit different places. He ignited my passion for writing.

He was a good writer too and asked me to proofread his work as soon as I got a grasp of the English language. During his last days too, he would narrateme my stories and asked me to write a book. So that is a dream I have to fulfil. I owe my writing career to him.

My mom dreaded English in her student days so she wanted me to learn and ace the language. So, I owe it to her for being my inspiration. Professionally, I started as a Software Engineer and moved to teach Computer Science to undergraduate students at the University of Delhi.

I took a career break for motherhood and in those three years, I started pursuing my writing dream. Now, I am an Assistant Professor by profession and a writer by vocation. And I love absolutely everything about my life, motherhood, writing, and teaching.

2. Please tell us about your learnings regarding video marketing.

Videos consume the most traffic on the internet and most of the time of any person who has a smartphone.

They can be paused, resumed, or viewed while you are travelling and provide a great source of information, engagement, and entertainment. To be able to cut through the clutter it is important to squeeze in as much information as you can in as little time as you can. And use wit and humour to capitalize on trending topics.

3. What is your prediction for Video Marketing?

I think there will be two things that will rule this year.

  • Short Videos: The success of IG stories and now the exponential growth of TikTok tells you how this generation wants to consume content. They don’t have time. They want to only brush through content and spend as little time as possible on a particular piece of content. For example, I have binge-watched FRIENDS in the past but now I only want to see short clips. And, I have never watched The Big Bang Theory but the short clips entertain me, humour me, without me having to invest my time in the entire series. And, I love both shows. So, I feel short videos will take over the long form.
  • Interactive Videos: For better engagement and to capture user attention, it is important to create interactive content. And interactive videos, give more power and control to your viewers. And today everyone wants to drive things their own way. Thus interactive videos get a huge thumbs-up from me.

4. How important ‘storytelling’ is in video content marketing?

We all love stories. Stories helped our parents supervise our learning process. And seniors love telling stories about their experiences to the younger generation.

Else, why would you ask me my story in the first question? Stories make any content piece more relatable and engrossing. If you can integrate your marketing message into a story it would be more impactful. Add an interactive element to it and you have a winner. See this video and you will know what I am talking about.

5.   So, according to you, how can Businesses leverage video and achieve results?

B2C: integrate stories of real-life people with your product story and blend your marketing message.

I am a mother, and if a brand can craft a message that understands my struggles as a working mother through a story of a mommy and baby, and help solve my problems through the story, I will be inspired to think about their product and most likely use it.

B2B: Turn case studies into stories. Tell stories about how your team created a great product, record videos from their work hours, goof-ups and have relatable yet informative content.
