1. Tell us about your life journey in brief?

When I look back and try to recollect why am I good at dealing with videos, I find that I was the only one in school who would go and watch the films in theatres first-day first show. Consciously or Subconsciously I was always connected to videos right from my childhood and I started developing a flair for videos since then.

In school, I was more inclined towards sports but my life changed when I left home for further studies as my parents were not there to guide me with studies and not even to wake me up in the morning. Basically life changes when you realize your responsibility.

Graduated in Bachelor of business administration in 2002 and Post-graduated in Masters in journalism and mass communication in 2004. During masters, I joined MAAC (Alpha Maya that time) and did a 6 months course.

After masters, I joined the same institute as a lecturer and started teaching graphics and multimedia to the BJMC students.

But destiny had some better plans for me and on one good day, I got a call from the production house (Swayam Infotainment 2004-2006) to join them. I worked there for almost 2 years. During those days I was unable to explain the nature of my work to my friends and my family.

The biggest milestone was when I joined India Today Group in 2006 as a Video editor and then I never looked back. Today I am working as a Senior Video Editor with lots of responsibilities and leading a team of 12-15 video editors on any given day. I also deliver lectures in India Today Media Institute of Video Editing and Mobile Journalism.

I love teaching and often share my experiences with the students so that they are ready for the real-world challenges.

2. What prompted you to take up the Video Editor role at India Today Group?

It might sound simple to the outside world but the job of a Video editor is quite challenging and deadline-based. What so ever be the situation we are supposed to deliver quality work every time.

When you work as a video editor you need to understand the pulse of viewers and then deliver the video content accordingly. You get the chance to work on different projects every now and then related to different aspects of life and that is what I enjoy the most.

3. Please tell us about the most successful Video you were part of?

I have always been a part of Mega shows to name a few Vande Mataram, Agenda Aajtak, 2014 & 2019 General Elections, Motorcycle Diaries and many more.

In 2014 I bagged my first ENBA award for the Best Video Editor Hindi category for the show JEETEGA BHAI JEETEGA which demonstrated the mood of Muslims in 2014 general elections.

My recent work is a mega show Vande Mataram ( Season 6 ). This is a show based on Indian defense forces. In 2016 I bagged my 2nd ENBA award for the Best Video Editor Hindi for the same.

In 2019 my show Sehmi Galliyan won ENBA award in the category Best current affairs Hindi. This is the show about the life of women in red light areas. I was a part of this show as a Video editor.

There was another mega show on river Ganges that covered the Ganges from Gomukh to Ganga Sagar and the list goes on!

4. What mistakes Video Editors should avoid as per your experience?

If someone is aspiring to become a video editor the first and the most important quality he/she should have is the “OBSERVATION POWER” that many young talent lacks nowadays and also they are afraid of asking questions.

One thing which I suggest everyone don’t be in a hurry. This is not a race its a marathon. Sense of playing with visuals will develop gradually. You will become a successful video editor if you have an eye to observe accurately and work skillfully.

5. What strategic advice you would like to give to someone who wants to start as a Video Editor?

Aspiring video editors must keep their eyes and ears always open, they should start paying attention to the videos they watch and the music and the natural sounds they hear.
